Beantown

Over Labor Day weekend, we were fortunate to have a wedding gift vacation to Boston, Massachussets. We were awakened by our alarms at 4:30 A.M. to make our flight, but it was well worth it. We must say that Midwest Airlines is wonderful to fly with (plus they have delicious freshly baked chocolate chip cookies...yummmmm!). Our flight was on time and direct which gave us a good start to our vacation. In Boston, we met up with Skip and Lauren (from Connecticut) at the Liberty Hotel which was a prison until 1990 and has since been converted into a very nice and unique hotel. They took us to the aquarium and then to eat at a restaraunt that was once a private men's club (no women allowed).

On Saturday, we were treated to a tour of Fenway Park (the Boston Red Sox baseball stadium). That day we walked 10 miles around town which was great exercise but the blisters were painful. In the evening, we went to the Italian district for dinner (awesome food!). That was just a warm-up for the Red Sox game where we enjoyed typical ballpark food. Wade's favorite was the italian sausage dog with onions and peppers...luckily, no heart attack occurred.

On Sunday, we were off to tour Boston on our own. We adventured to a part of town where there was a Russian grocery store (similar to what Megan was used to in Georgia). We later toured Boston via land and water on a "duck." We saw many new things and learned a lot about the city and history. It was quite amusing to hear our guide make fun of us by calling us "little quackers" and quacking at all the onlookers throughout the tour.

Monday we walked the Freedom Trail touring sights such as the Paul Revere house, the USS Constitution, Trinity Church, Boston Commons, and Quincy Market. It is a city rich in history as we read of many firsts for our country that happened in Boston. We made another visit to the Italian district for dinner and again were very impressed with the food.

Tuesday was our last day and we met up with Robyn (Megan's friend who was in Georgia for a time). We went to the top of the Prudential building where we took an audio tour of the city from the 50th floor. It was very interesting.

We are so thankful for the generosity of Skip and Lauren for a great wedding gift! We had a great time hanging out with them and seeing the city!
